Accommodation Envy

I visited someone’s house recently, you know when you go to a new house and you start making remarks about how lovely they have made the place and you don’t actually mean it? Well I did not have to make any false remarks because it really was an awesome place.

It was a converted warehouse that had been turned into a flat/housing unit. I remember the first time I walked around it and thinking what a lucky person my new friend was for landing a place at such a cheap price.

It was very spacious and everything from the flooring to the roofing had been blended into one so perfectly. Even if we did have to take our shoes off whenever we go there.

Actually when I’m there I spend a lot of the time looking up and admiring the corrugated roofing that looks beautiful. It sort of reminds me of the corrugated iron sheets that we used to use when I was kid to make camps.

I remember one New Year’s Eve party we went outside to watch him light fireworks from the roof when one of the roofing panels fell off and made a hell of a noise as it clattered to the floor.

I’m always asking him if there are any vacant units going, I want to live there so badly!

I never complimented people on their places unless I really liked something. So “woah man, that piece here is awesome!” happens but “very lovely place, i love everything here” never does. It just never seems honest to me.
